Speech Therapists / Pathologists
According to Speech Pathology Australia, "speech pathologists study, diagnose and treat communication disorders, including difficulties with speaking, listening, understanding language, reading, writing, social skills, stuttering and using voice" and can help "people who experience difficulties swallowing food and drink safely".
People with physical disabilities may see a speech therapist across the lifespan for any difficulties related to communication and swallowing. This includes social inclusion; participation in the community; assistance to help you be understood by others; to be able to understand spoken and written language; to use low and high tech equipment and assistive technology to communicate and finding strategies to help you safely swallow and stay healthy.
