GP

A general practitioner or GP is a medical doctor working in the community. They are your first point of contact in the health system. They co-ordinate everything that is health related to you. GPs will either treat any health concerns you have and / or will refer to specialists and other health professionals in the hospital and community setting.

Establishing a relationship with a GP is an important foundation for health management in adulthood for everyone with a physical disability. A good relationship with a trusted GP facilitates referrals into the adult tertiary health system and community setting.
