Social Workers

Social workers support people practically and emotionally in a broad range of ways to live a good life. They assist people to manage and cope with various issues and changes at all stages of life, helping you to set goals and find strategies that work for you. Counselling, advocacy and support to access practical, financial, psychosocial and other supports to enhance your social, educational or work life all form part of the social worker role.

For people with physical disabilities, social workers often help you to make decisions in your own life especially at times of transition; advocate and liaise to facilitate access to supports that you need; explore friendships and hobbies; confidential counselling to manage feelings of grief and loss or if you feel lonely, isolated, anxious or depressed or any other issue you are experiencing; behavioural support and issues related to self-esteem and your own sense of identity. These supports can be provided at any point across the lifespan and can also be provided to your family members if you wish.
