Orthotists

Orthotists are health professionals who assess, prescribe and manufacture orthoses for various parts of the body. They work closely with other health professionals, particularly physiotherapists and orthopaedic surgeons, to ensure the best outcomes in the prescription of the orthoses they provide.

Many people with physical disabilities are likely to see orthotists across their life for orthoses such as ankle foot orthoses (AFOs), foot orthoses, spinal braces or pelvic rib wedges. Any orthoses should be monitored at least yearly by your physiotherapist and orthotist across your life.
