Income and allowances

While there is more to life than money, it is important to have some!

If you are not employed in open employment, there are options for a regular income or reduced rates for various services for people with disabilities. Visit the Australian Government Department of Human Services website for details on the following and any other payments you may be eligible for:

  • Disability Support Pension
  • Health Care Cards: low income and ex-carer allowance child health care card - ages 16-25 in full time study
  • Regular unemployment benefits
  • Youth Allowance: income support for students between 16 and 24 years
  • Austudy: main income support payment if you are over 25 and studying or an Australian Apprentice
  • ABSTUDY: financial help for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and Australian Apprentices
  • Youth Disability Supplement – an extra payment if you are a young person with a disability and on some type of income support
  • Help with moving for study
  • Help with living costs
  • Carer allowance
