It is recommended that people with physical disabilities be monitored by health professionals experienced in the field of their disability.

Most people with physical disabilities have had extensive contact with community therapy providers throughout childhood. Some see therapists, psychologists and social workers at organisations that have many disciplines employed while others see the health professionals in private practice. Regardless of where and who people see, it is imperative that ongoing monitoring by therapy and psychosocial teams continue into adulthood.

Deciding whether you see one health professional or many health professionals in one or more organisations or locations all depends on your needs. If you have minor impairments, the therapist around the corner from your home may suit you best. If you have complex or specific needs that require multiple health professionals to support you, an organisation employing teams may suit you best.

Finding the best organisation to suit your needs is best discussed with your planner, local co-ordinator, support provider, GP or specialist or by researching and contacting therapy and psychosocial providers and talking to them about what they provide and how it could help you.

Providers also refer to other health professionals to best meet your needs.
